Abstract:ThevalueofConfucianclassicsisanimportanttopicinmodernacademichistory,
theacademicinheritancefrom LiaoPingtoMeng Wentongprovidesanimportantviewpointfor
thestudyonthatproblem.MengWentongfocusedontheacademicdevelopmentandevolutionof
thediscussion,brokethroughstudybarriersofthetraditionalclassicsonConfucianclassics,no灢
ticedtheinteractionbetweendifferentschools,andexplainedshiftoftheclassicsfrom Zhouto
Qin.WiththestudyonConfucianclassics,helookedintotheConfucianphilosophersinasys灢
tem,andformedhisownuniqueresearchmethod.Theformationofhismethodiscloselyrelated
tohismentorLiaoPing.AlthoughMengWentongdidn暞tagreewithLiao暞sviewpointinLiao暞s
remainingyears,LiaoPing暞stheory,suchas“Daxiao暠and“Tianren暠,brokethroughsuchbarri灢
ersamongdifferentschools,andmetthetrendofthetimes,i.e.,integratingtraditionalChinese
theoriesasawhole,whichlaidafoundationforMengWentong暞sclassicsresearch.BasedonLi灢
aoPing暞sstudyonclassics,MengWentongbroketheauthorityofConfuciuswhichactuallyput
dueemphasisonotherschools.Throughhisownresearch,Menggavehisanswertothehistori灢
calproblemofwherethestudyonConfucianclassicsshouldgoattheturnoftheQingDynasty
andthefirstperiodoftheRepublicofChina.Heusesahistoricalperspectivetolookintothede灢
velopmentofclassics,buthisaimistoemphasizethestudyonChinesehistory,cultureandspe灢
cialvaluethroughwhichtojustifytheConfucianclassics.
