Abstract:Influenced by tourist gaze, the ethnic cultural performance for the tourists, by choosing,
dissociating and recreating original culture icons, becomes a place for the traditional ethnic culture and
consumer culture of mainstream to meet and transform. This thesis employs the case study on the perform⁃
ance Gaoyuan hong and theory of the third place, analyzes the spanning characteristics of the perform⁃
ance, its values and function, as well as its nature and orientation, re⁃illustrate the cultural significance
of the performance Gaoyuan hong from cultural anthropology, and comes to the conclusion that the cul⁃
ture demonstrated in the performance Gaoyuan hong is neither consumer culture of mainstream nor tradi⁃
tional ethnic culture, but a alien culture born in the interaction of one culture with another. The thesis al⁃
so points out that it takes the form of modern expression and active construction of traditional ethnic cul⁃
ture.
